This policy has been developed in accordance with Asthma Foundation WA’s Asthma Friendly Program and incorporates the essential criteria to become Asthma Friendly.
St Bernadette’s School aims to provide for the whole child – physically, emotionally and educationally. It is a well recognised fact that children perform better when they eat balanced meals that are high in vitamins and minerals and low in preservatives and colouring.
Code of Conduct
The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to describe minimum standards of conduct in all behaviour and decision making to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
Dealing with Bullying, Harassment, Aggression and Violence (Students) Policy
St Bernadette’s Catholic Primary School Community has a responsibility to provide an educational environment that promotes the dignity and respect of the person and, therefore, aims to encourage the development of positive relationships between students to address all forms of bullying, harassment, aggression and violence.
Dispute and Complaint Resolution Policy
The School Education Act requires an educational system to have a means by which disputes and complaint about the provision of education are resolved. The staff of St. Bernadette’s School is committed to working harmoniously together in order to build community through respecting the rights and responsibilities of each other.
Early Childhood Education Policy
Each child is a precious and sacred gift from God created as an individual with their own unique talents and abilities. Catholic education seeks to create environments that nurture this individuality while enhancing learning and empowering young people to live the Catholic faith in the spirit of Jesus Christ.
St Bernadette’s School exists to further the mission of the Church. In Western Australia, the Mandate of the Bishops requires the Catholic Education Commission of Western Australia to make Catholic school education available to all Catholic children, in so far as resources allow.
Fee Collection Policy
The collection and setting of school fees for St Bernadette’s Catholic Primary School is in keeping with CECWA policy and is seen by the Bishops of Western Australia as a necessary contribution by parents towards the costs of delivering a Catholic Education for their children.
Guidelines for the Provision of Therapy in Catholic Schools
Catholic schools recognise the valuable contributions provided by specialist services to enhanced outcomes for students with disabilities. Under the Western Australian School Education Act (2000) the principal has ultimate responsibility for the education programs provided by the school and the school is responsible for all aspects of a student’s program and care during school hours.
Within all schools a duty of care towards the students must be afforded at all times and must cater for all students. Extra care must be taken to protect students with a medical condition which could expose them to special risk or injury.
Pastoral Care Policy
Pastoral Care in a Catholic School is informed by and given its spirit by the school’s place as part of the evangelical ministry of the Church. The Catholic school is in essence the face of Christ for its whole community and its pastoral role needs to infuse every aspect of its operation and its relationships.
Student Behaviour Management Policy
Within all schools, a duty of care towards the students and staff must be afforded at all times. St. Bernadette’s Catholic Primary School’s Vision Statement proclaims that we aim to promote responsibility among students, as well as developing cooperative behaviour.
The Catholic Education Office provides the following guidelines for the determination of uniform:
